Henry Faison passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 30th 2013. He was 78 years old. Born and raised in Charlotte, Henry graduated from Woodberry Forest High School, Davidson College and University of Virginia Darden School of Business. His business career in real estate began in the 1960s as he pioneered shopping center development in the Southeast. Over the years Henry built one of the most successful real estate development companies in the country. Faison sold Faison & Associates to Trammell Crow Co. for $39.1 million in 1998, but four years later Faison Enterprises bought back the retail development and services units. Henry served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, University of Virginia Darden School of Business, Charlotte Chamber Board of Advisors, and Mercy Hospital. He also played a key roll in bringing the Carolina Panthers to Charlotte while serving as chair of the two-state business committee for the NFL. He was first committed to his hometown he loved, and he worked tirelessly towards his goal of seeing Charlotte grow into a first-class city. Henry enjoyed quail hunting with his two sons, grandchildren and friends. Bird hunting was a pastime he inherited from his father and passed on to his family. He took pleasure in working with landowners to re-introduce wild quail to the Low country. Whatever Henry did, he engaged with energy, passion, focus and conviction. Henry is survived by his devoted wife Carolyn Broun Faison; his son Jay and wife Olga and their children Amelia, Hannah, and Henry; his son Lane and wife Liz and their children Lane and Blair; and his stepdaughters Virginia McMullan and Carolyn Rankin. Henry was previously married for 27 years to Mollie Dewey Faison.
