John J Medveckis

Businessman, philanthropist, patron of the arts, collector and amateur historian, John Medveckis puts his many passions to work serving his community. A partner in the Philadelphia investment advisory firm of Cooke & Bieler since 1973, Mr. Medveckis has been an avid student of the art and history of ancient Rome, the Florentine Renaissance, and pre-Revolutionary Russia. He serves on the boards of city cultural treasures including the Curtis Institute of Music, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and the Historical Society of Philadelphia. In addition, he is Chairman of the Visual Arts Committee and member of the Madison Council of the U. S. Library of Congress. In 2006 Mr. Medveckis was elected by the U. S. Senate to be a Trustee of the Library of Congress. He is a member of the Board of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Committee on Foreign Relations and former Director of the U. S. Baltic Foundation. He also is a Fellow and trustee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Born in Latvia, John Medveckis immigrated to the United States in 1951, and became an American citizen in 1962. He was raised in Indianapolis and studied architecture and earned his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Cincinnati. While still in his twenties he co-founded the Economics Club of Indianapolis, the Penrod Society and the Indiana Repertory Theatre. He taught investments for two years at Purdue University, served as Officer of the American Fletcher National Bank in Indianapolis, and was admitted to the Indianapolis Society of Financial Analysts.
