LittleSis: Sally S Hoglund

Born in Wichita, Kansas in 1935, Sally attended Monticello College before transferring to the University of Kansas, where she was an active member of Pi Beta Phi and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Political Science. She and Forrest married shortly after graduation, and relocated to several cities as he pursued his career in the oil and gas industry. After The Hoglund Foundation was established in 1989, Sally quickly became a driving force in both the Dallas and Houston philanthropic communities, the two cities in which they live. Among the many organizations Sally actively supports are AWARE, Chiapas International, Visiting Nurse Association Foundation, Senior Source, and The United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Foundation. Sally co-founded the Partners Card, which has raised more than $6.5 million for The Family Place, a safe haven for abused women and their children in Dallas. She then started the similar Holiday Shopping Card in Houston, which has raised more than $4.5 million for the American Cancer Society in Houston. Sally has chaired major fundraising events for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Senior Source, Chiapas International, and the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Kansas College of Liberal Arts and was co-founder of Women Philanthropists for KU. The members of the Hoglund family, including daughters Kelly Compton, Shelly Dee, and Kristy Robinson and their children, have embraced the guiding principles as identified by Sally and Forrest as they continue their commitment to philanthropy.
