A. C. "Mike" Markkula, Jr. has been associated with Santa Clara University in various capacities since 1984. Mr. Markkula and his wife Linda provided initial funding for the Center for Applied Ethics, and he served as Chairman of the Board of Advisors and a member of the steering committee. The University awarded him an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree in 1992. Mr. Markkula is a cofounder of Apple Computer, Inc. and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors until 1996. He is also the founder of Echelon Corporation, ACM Aviation, San Jose Jet Center and Rana Creek Habitat Restoration, and currently sits on the Board of Directors of each. Mr. Markkula received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. Prior to forming Apple, he held positions as Member of Technical Staff in the Research and Development Laboratory at Hughes Aircraft Company, Marketing Director for Integrated Circuits at Fairchild Semiconductor and Marketing Director at Intel Corporation. He currently holds five patents, all in the area of distributed intelligence control networks.
