Hoekstra spent 26 years at UBS and predecessor PaineWebber, rising to chief executive of the Swiss bank’s U.S. wealth management business prior to his departure in 2008. He later served as chief executive of Emerging Global Advisors, an asset management firm acquired by Columbia Threadneedle, the asset management arm of Ameriprise, in 2016. Marten is a Senior Advisor to China International Capital Corporation and other financial services related organizations. He is Chairman of The Private Wealth Partners, a young company that accelerates new private wealth enterprises. Marten is a former Director of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. He is currently a board member of Prison Fellowship Ministries, the Zurich International School Foundation, and the University of North Dakota Alumni Association and Foundation, where is he the Chair of the Investment Committee. He is a graduate of the University of North Dakota, with a B.A. in political science. He earned an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Marten and his wife, Val, reside in New York City. They have four adult children.
