David Thomas, Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Lofgren and former Gore advisor, Joins Mehlman Vogel Castagnetti, Inc. Thomas brings a dozen years of experience in both the legislative and executive branches of the federal government to Mehlman Vogel Castagnetti. During his four year tenure in the House, Thomas was responsible for developing and overseeing all legislative, political and communications initiatives for Lofgren. As Chief of Staff, he worked closely with the House Democratic Leadership and the entire California Democratic Congressional Delegation, which Lofgren chairs. He also advised Lofgren, who represents San Jose and Silicon Valley, on technology policy including cybersecurity issues, taxes, trade, intellectual property and innovation. Prior to working for Lofgren, Thomas was the Director of Congressional Relations at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In this position, he served as the top liaison between the FTC and the U.S. Congress. Previously, he spent over six years in Vice President Al Gore’s Office of Legislative Affairs where he promoted White House policy initiatives in both the Senate and House and helped create a long-term strategy for the Vice President’s interactions with Capitol Hill. Thomas grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, went to high school in Connecticut, and is a graduate of Vanderbilt University. He and his wife Brooke have a one year old son and live in Chevy Chase, DC.
