Former Hasbro CEO Alan G. Hassenfeld, who ran the Pawtucket-based toymaker for more than a decade and became one of Rhode Island's top philanthropists, has died at the age of 76. Hassenfeld died in London, England, on July 8, 2025. Hassenfeld was the grandson of one of the founders of the Pawtucket, Rhode Island-based company and took the reins of the business in 1989 after his older brother Stephen died. He stepped down as CEO in 2003 and remained a board member. Chairman of the Board of Hasbro since 1989. Prior to May 2003, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer since 1999. Prior thereto, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer since 1989. Effective May 22, 2008, Alfred J. Verrecchia became Chairman of the Board of Hasbro. After leaving day-to-day control of Hasbro to Verrecchia, Hassenfeld focused on charitable work and the Hassenfeld Family Foundation. He was instrumental in the founding of Hasbro Children's Hospital and was a member of the Brown University Board of Trustees.
