Gretchen R. Haggerty, a native of Pittsburgh, earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Joining the corporation as a management trainee in the tax division in 1976, Mrs. Haggerty was named tax assistant in 1977 and moved to the audit division the following year. She transferred to the financial department as leasing analyst in 1980, became senior financial analyst in 1982 and advanced to corporate finance manager two years later. In 1985, Mrs. Haggerty was appointed director-plant and general accounting for the former USS Chemicals Division. The next year she returned to the tax division as a general tax attorney and was named director-taxes, energy in 1987. In October 2004, Mrs. Haggerty relinquished the title of treasurer and continues as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Additionally, Mrs. Haggerty is chairman of the United States Steel and Carnegie Pension Fund and is a member of the Investment Committee of the Fund. Mrs. Haggerty is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) in the state of Ohio. She serves on the boards of Highmark Inc. and the United Way of Allegheny County. She also serves on the board and executive committee of the Pennsylvania Business Council.
