Sara Whitman is a recognized leader in the field of philanthropy with a focus public education, early childhood issues, and LGBT civil rights. Prior to her work with the Wild Geese Foundation, Whitman served on the boards of Mass Equality and The Schott Foundation for Public Education. Her work with foundations spans two decades and includes leadership roles in foundation investments, development, and racial justice committees. A published writer, Sara has written about LGBT rights, and her own personal — often humorous — experiences as a divorced lesbian mom of three sons, aged 15, 17 and 19. Sara currently is an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music, teaching Writing and Communication. Sara’s photography has appeared in 2013, Searching for Red, Montana Artist Refuge, Basin, MT, curated by Bently Spang and Mary Ellen Strom, and 2014, Drawn to Water, Guest Juror, Elizabeth Devlin, Boston, MA. Sara spends her time between suburban Boston and southeast Maine, where she plots her next big project. She is a graduate of Hartwick College.
