age 62, has been a director of the Company since 2001 and a director of Anthem Insurance from 1995 to May 2003. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Fifth Third Bancorp since 1990 and served as Chief Executive Officer of Fifth Third Bancorp from 1990 to April 2007. He is also a director of Ashland, Inc. (petroleum and chemical business) and a trustee of the University of Cincinnati Foundation. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he also holds a master’s degree in finance. In addition to pat service on the board of the University of Cincinnati, he is a member of the boards of Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati and Ashland, Inc. Schaefer led the 1999 United Way Campaign in Greater Cincinnati, which helped generate $58 million for local charities. He also serves as a member of the board of the Cincinnati Institute of Fine Arts, the Johnny Bench Scholarship Fund, Queen City Club, Taft Museum, Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and the Medical Center Fund. Additionally, Schaefer is a member of the Commercial and Commonwealth Clubs and the Cincinnati Business Committee. A Vietnam veteran, Schaefer earned the Bronze Star for valor.
