CEO of Phoenix-based Vestar Development Co. -- one of the largest privately-held shopping center firms in the West. Hanley was revered as somewhat of an icon in the commercial development industry, especially in Phoenix, where Vestar’s flagship developments include North Phoenix’s Desert Ridge Marketplace and Tempe Marketplace open-air shopping centers. The firm still serves as property manager of both. Vestar, which Hanley co-founded in the late 1980s, has other offices in Los Angeles and San Diego. Hanley was born in Los Angeles and graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in accounting. He was also a U.S. Marine Corps officer who served during the Vietnam War. Before co-founding Vestar, Hanley worked for Xerox Corporation, CB Commercial (today known as CBRE Inc.) and Estes Development Co.
