The Fund will acquire existing residential rental properties in select major U.S. markets - creating value by upgrading units, adding amenities, improving management, and creating a secure, high quality brand of urban living for working families. The Fund will break new ground in "greening" multifamily rental properties, and it will implement resident services programs such as English as a second language, financial planning classes, and after-school tutoring to build a strong sense of community and to create a pride of rentership. Former California State Treasurer Phil Angelides, is chairman of the Fund. Angelides has earned a national reputation over the last 30 years in both the private and public sectors for his pioneering work in urban reinvestment, housing, green investment and smart growth. In keeping with the long standing commitments of Canyon-Johnson and its principals, the Fund will focus on the "triple bottom line" investment strategy of achieving successful financial results, fostering opportunities for underserved urban neighborhoods and their residents, and embracing environmental responsibility.
