Marguerite Lenfest, born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, grew up in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia and graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1951. She met her future husband, H. F. (“Gerry”) Lenfest and the couple were married while Gerry was serving in the Navy. Mrs. Lenfest earned a B.A. in psychology from Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1955. Living in New York City after their marriage, she worked for six years as an elementary school teacher on Long Island and in Manhattan. Her passion for children led her to serve on the Board of Directors for the Jenkintown Day Nursery, and she has since served on countless boards for museums and other cultural organizations throughout the Philadelphia area. The Lenfests’ three children and four grandchildren all live in the Philadelphia area.
