Mr. Lowenstein is the Simon H. Rifkind Professor Emeritus of Finance and Law at Columbia University. From 1988 to 1995, he was the Director of the Institutional Investor Project, a Law School Project undertaken in collaboration with the New York Stock Exchange. He practiced corporate law in New York for over 20 years and is a founder of the firm now known as Kramer, Levin, Naftalis & Frankel. Mr. Lowenstein has been a Director of Liz Claiborne, Interstate Brands, Mathematica, Supermarkets General, and other companies. He was a member of the Public Oversight Board and the Public Authority Governance Advisory Committee. He is the author of Sense and Nonsense in Corporate Finance, What's Wrong with Wall Street, and co-editor of and contributor to Knights, Raiders and Targets, as well numerous articles and op-ed pieces. He often lectures on corporate governance, markets, and finance. He has served as editor-in-chief of the Columbia Law Review and is currently chairman of its board of directors. Mr. Lowenstein also served as law secretary to Judge Stanley H. Fuld of the NY Court of Appeals. He is chairman emeritus of the Coalition for the Homeless in New York City. Professor Lowenstein is a graduate of the Columbia Business and Law Schools.
