McRaven retired in 2014 from the U.S. Navy as the ninth commander of the United States Special Operations Command after a 37-year career. He advised Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama as well as other leaders on defense issues. McRaven is credited for organizing and overseeing the execution of Operation Neptune Spear, the special ops raid that led to the death of Osama in Laden on May 2 2011. From 2015 to 2018, he was the chancellor of The University of Texas System
