Edward Hoff

Edward J. Hoff joined IBM as Vice President, Learning in May, 2001. In this role, Ted is responsible for leading learning initiatives across IBM, developing and delivering management training and giving functional guidance for employee, technical, and sales training, certification, and technology-enabled learning. He is a member of IBM's Senior Leadership Group and the HR Global Leadership Team. Ted has championed the vision that "Learning is in the core DNA of IBM" -- fundamental to IBM's heritage and future. Under Ted's leadership, IBM has expanded and rejuvenated existing programs, established new learning models, and won numerous training and development citations and awards. With more than 50 percent of learning now being conducted online, the culture of learning is being transformed, saving IBM millions in deployment which allows for reinvestment in learning advancement. Maximizing the business impact as well as the personal impact, Ted takes a business driven and measurement-disciplined approach to learning. Ted serves as a Director, as well as the Chairman of the Compensation Committee, for Courier Corporation, a printing and publishing company. He also serves as a Director of MassINC, the leading public policy think tank in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and as a Director of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation. Prior to joining IBM, Ted was President of Leadership Development Inc. (LDI), a management education and business consulting firm he founded in 1998. Over the past 11 years, Ted has personally led learning initiatives for Verizon, GTE, Citibank, United Technologies, Cigna, Johnson & Johnson, CSX and PepsiCo. GTE won the ASTD "Excellence in Practice" awards for two separate development initiatives under Ted's leadership. He was a partner in The Center for Executive Development, based in Cambridge, MA. Ted was a member of the Harvard Business School faculty, teaching marketing and conducting research in strategy, marketing, and sales leadership. Ted authored several Harvard Business Review articles and case studies as well as a textbook on the use of PCs and Lotus 1-2-3 in marketing analysis. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating as a Baker Scholar, and a BS degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Prior to attending business school, Ted served as Cabinet Secretary for the Governor of New Jersey and a legislative assistant for a U.S. Congressman. http://www.jag.org/board-of-directors/edward-hoff
