Dr. Shultz served on Gilead's Board of Directors from 1996 until May 2006 and currently serves as Director Emeritus. Dr. Shultz is a Distinguished Fellow at the Hoover Institution and a director of the Fremont Group and Accretive Health. From 1982 until 1989, Dr. Shultz served as the U.S. Secretary of State and previously served as Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Labor and Director of the Office of Management and Budget. He was also Dean of the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago and President of Bechtel Group, Inc. In 1989, Dr. Shultz was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States' highest civilian honor.
