President and Chief Operating Officer of Gilbane Building Company. As President, he helps lead the overall operations of the company, including maintenance of client relationships and close involvement with major projects. Mr. Gilbane previously served as Executive Vice President. In that role, he was the driving force behind establishing an industry-leading client satisfaction and operational excellence program, as well as providing executive leadership towards employee learning and development through Gilbane University (GU). In 2008, Mr. Gilbane received Engineering News Record magazine’s Newsmaker award for leading Gilbane training efforts. Mr. Gilbane also served as Senior Vice President for 18 years, where he was responsible for more than 400 employees and approximately $500 million of annual construction work and establishing five new offices. A graduate from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, he is a past member of the University of Rhode Island Civic and Environmental Engineering Advisory Council, a member of the Board of Overseers of Roger Williams University, a director of Gilbane Inc., and a board member of the Rhode Island Irish Famine Memorial, as well as an Honorary Director of the Rhode Island Reds Heritage Society. He is a member of the Rochester Institute of Technology President's Roundtable, Rochester, NY. He is a past director of Nestor Inc. of East Providence, a past member of the Board of Advisors for Portsmouth Abbey School and the Advisory Committee for the NCAA Hockey Championship. He is also past chairman of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island.
