Sanguinetti was born and raised in Miami, Fla. The daughter of an Ecuadorian father and Cuban mother, Sanguinetti's first language was Spanish. English was her second language. She earned her B.A. in piano performance from Florida International University and her J.D. from John Marshall Law School. Sanguinetti was an assistant attorney general under former Republican Illinois Attorney General James E. Ryan, and went on to practice at a private law firm in Chicago.She also worked as an adjunct professor at John Marshall Law School. She was the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. She assumed office on January 12, 2015. She left office in 2019 after being defeated in the general election on November 6, 2018. Sanguinetti (Republican Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Illinois' 6th Congressional District. She did not appear on the ballot for the Republican primary on March 17, 2020.
