Former Republican congressional staffer for Sen. Phil Gramm and multiple Reps, and House Republican Study Committee. Derek V. Baker has been involved in conservative Republican politics for over 20 years. Upon leaving his hometown of Sherman, Texas, after high school he got his start in Senator Phil Gramm’s office while still attending college. He served Sen. Gramm for 10 years and also worked on Gramm’s 1996 presidential campaign. Derek also worked for Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Dallas, and he handled faith and family issues at the House Republican Study Committee under Reps. Hensarling and Mike Pence. Before returning to Texas, Derek also served as the Director of Federal Affairs for Americans for Limited Government. Derek graduated from Liberty University with degree in Religion and Political Science. He lives in McKinney with his wife of 13 years, Melissa, and they have three small children, Reagan, Austin, and Lincoln.
