Former Los Angeles Times publisher Richard T. “Dick” Schlosberg III, who led the newspaper during an era that saw double-digit profits and the emergence of the internet, which would eventually decimate the industry, died Wednesday January 10 2023 in San Antonio. He was 79. The cause was brain cancer, according to his son, Dr. Richard T. Schlosberg IV. Retired President and Chief Executive Officer of The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (private family foundation) (1999-2004); Publisher and Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles Times (newspaper) (1994-1997); Executive Vice President and Director, The Times Mirror Company (media communications) (1994-1997). Mr. Schlosberg has been a Director of Edison International and SCE since 2002. He is a Director of eBay Inc. and BEA Systems, Inc. Mr. Schlosberg was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, and held an MBA degree from Harvard Business School. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathy, his son and his daughter Deb Rich Herczeg, as well as five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
