Hushmand Sohaili has a broad range of real estate experience, including the acquisition, disposition, sale/leaseback, exchange, financing and refinancing (including mezzanine debt) of commercial, residential, retail, special use, industrial, hotel and gaming properties and related businesses. In the hotel area he has also represented luxury hotel owners of five star hotels in the negotiation, documentation and restructuring of their hotel management agreements, the purchase and sale of such luxury hotels as well as the documentation of new hotel loans and the restructuring of the same. A significant part of his practice over the last few years has involved representing buyers and sellers of distressed real estate. Prior to joining Akin Gump, Mr. Sohaili was a founding partner of the Los Angeles office of an international law firm, where he focused on real estate finance transactional matters. Mr. Sohaili received his B.A. with highest honors in economics from the University of Southern Illinois in 1975 and his J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law in 1979.
