Gerald "Jerry" Groswold, a leader in the ski industry who was instrumental in the development of the Winter Park Resort, died Nov. 26 2015. He was 84. Groswold was the former president and CEO of Winter Park Resort for 22 years, from 1975 until he retired in 1997. He is known for being a part of its development from day one, when in 1939, at 8 years old he carried water to the volunteers who first cut the trails. As CEO, he oversaw the expansion of Vasquez and Parsenn bowl areas, the development of Mary Jane and the master planning of Winter Park Village. He also helped create the Winter Park Nordic Ski Team's jumping program, which trains young Nordic skiers. Groswold also has much respect from the community for his role in developing the National Sports Center for the Disabled. He helped to create the Winter Park Handicapped Program and had a passion for making the sport of skiing accessible to thousands of people with disabilities.
