David’s father is industrialist Jose Mugrabi, and his brother is the art-world fixture Alberto “Tico” Mugrabi. Their family is said to hold billions in art and is famed for owning the largest collection of works by Andy Warhol. The family also owns works by Damien Hirst and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Unfortunately for David, he and his estranged wife Libbie did not sign a prenup before they married, and now she is laying claim to his fortune, art collection and real estate. In question is an East 82nd Street home that has been renovated for millions, says a source, as well as a Hamptons home in Water Mill, where Libbie is living. There has been an ongoing dispute over the removal of art from both homes, with both sides alleging the other has taken pricey masterpieces without permission from the other. Meanwhile, David is claiming that Libbie is demanding far too much money because it is actually his father who holds all the money, the insider says. David’s lawyer, Lois Liberman, could not be reached on Friday. Libbie is represented by Ira Garr and Bill Zabel.
