William C. Steere, Jr. was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Pfizer Inc., a research-based global pharmaceutical company, from 1992 until his retirement in May 2001. Mr. Steere is a Director of Pfizer Inc., Health Management Associates, Inc., the New York Botanical Garden, and the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts. He is a Trustee of the New York University Medical Center and a member of the Board of Overseers of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Mr. Steere received a bachelor's degree from Stanford University. He has been a Director of MetLife since 1999 and a Director of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company since 1997. Mr. Steere was appointed as Lead Director of MetLife's Board of Directors on January 18, 2006.
