Mark J. Anderson is an Advisor in the firm’s Government Relations and Public Policy Practice Group, where he specializes in energy, environmental, agricultural, and telecommunications issues. In his role as Senior Policy Advisor to House Majority Whip Roy Blunt, Mark participated on numerous industry panels specializing in motor fuels issues as well as transmission, hydro, nuclear, electricity generation and electricity fuel issues. Mark has appeared on panels sponsored by associations such as: Coal 2020, the Edison Electric Institute, the Electric Power Supply Association, the National Mining Association, and the National Association of Convenience Stores. Mark’s thorough knowledge of these topics makes him a sought after individual to talk to many energy groups. Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Mr. Anderson most recently served as Manager of Federal Affairs at Southern California Edison. He concentrated on issues management initiatives concerning such matters as nuclear waste, electricity rates, clean air, environment, transmission, and infrastructure security. He also developed legislative tactics and lobbied extensively. Mr. Anderson served as Senior Policy Advisor to the House Majority Whip from 2003 to 2006, and helped to develop strategies that allowed for the successful passage of a number of key Acts, including the Healthy Forests Initiative in the first Session of the 108th Congress and the Energy Policy Act of 2005 in the first Session of the 109th Congress. He also served as Legislative Director to Representatives Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Lee Terry (R-NE). Previously, Mr. Anderson worked as the Director of Legislative Research at the SPECTRUM Group, where he charted the movement of key legislative provisions through the authorization and appropriations process, primarily focusing on defense, transportation, aviation, foreign affairs, veterans, and energy issues.
