Tom Gores is an American businessman and a self made financier whose investment holdings include California leveraged buyout business Platinum Equity, where he is founder, chairman and chief executive officer. Through Platinum Equity, Mr. Gores owns a portfolio of operating companies in a broad range of business markets including information technology, telecommunications, logistics, and chemical and industrial manufacturing, distribution and service. Mr. Gores has been associated with the automotive industry with a possible buyout of Delphi Corporation with General Motors as a potential co-sponsor. Mr. Gores makes his investments through a diversified capital base that includes the assets of Platinum Equity's portfolio companies as well as private equity funds backed by capital commitments from public and private institutional investors.
