Brown), a Representative from Ohio; born in Columbus, Ohio, June 18, 1927; graduated from Western High School (Duke Ellington) Washington, D.C., 1944; B.A., Duke University, Durham, N.C., 1947; MBA., Harvard Business School, Cambridge, Mass., 1949; United States Navy, 1944-1946 (V-12 Program), and 1950-1953 (Korean conflict); journalist, Brown Publishing Co., 1949-1965, and serving as president, 1965-1976, and chairman of the board, 1976-2002; co-owner of Franklin, Ohio, Chronicle, 1953-1959; farm owner; radio station general manager, Urbana, Ohio, 1965; delegate, Republican National Conventions, 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1984; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-ninth Congress, by special election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, United States Representative Clarence J. Brown, and reelected to the eight succeeding Congresses (November 2, 1965-January 3, 1983); was not a candidate for reelection to the Ninety-eighth Congress in 1982, but was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Ohio; Deputy Secretary of Commerce and Acting Secretary of Commerce, 1983-1988; member, board of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, 1988-1989; president and chief executive officer, United States Capitol Historical Society, 1992-1999.
