Chip Smith

Chip Smith is The Glover Park Group’s Chief Executive Officer. A Founding Partner of the firm, Smith has led GPG from start-up to one of the nation’s fastest-growing, and most respected, independent communication companies. Smith has guided GPG through a number of critical expansions, including its strategic partnership with Svoboda Capital Partners. In addition to directing the operations of the company, Smith continues to counsel clients on corporate communications, reputation management and integrated marketing. Smith has managed a diverse portfolio of projects including a multi-year reputation management program for Pfizer, a rebranding of the World Wildlife Fund and the successful fight to bring Major League Baseball back to Washington D.C. Smith has worked in both the public and private sectors, providing communications and strategic services to a broad range of clients. He has guided corporations, non-profits, industry associations and candidates for political office. Prior to GPG, Smith was a Deputy Campaign Manager for Vice President Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign. As a member of the senior strategic team, Smith designed, built and directed the campaign’s day-to-day operations. From 1996 to 2000, Smith was the Chief of Staff at MCI and an Executive Director of Strategy and Communications. There he directed internal and external communications as well as overall messaging to Wall Street, industry analysts, media, regulators, customers, shareholders and employees. Before joining MCI, Smith was an Executive Vice President at Shrum, Devine & Donilon, Inc., a leading political media and public relations consulting firm. There he helped conceive, produce and place media in nine winning U.S. Senate campaigns and seven winning congressional campaigns. Smith began his career as a legislative assistant to Senator Wyche Fowler Jr. A native of Atlanta, Smith received a B.A. with distinction in American Studies from Colby College and an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Smith serves on the Governing Board for Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School and the Board of Uniting Against Lung Cancer.
