Tom Udall has a long and distinguished career in public service. He most recently served two terms as United States Senator from New Mexico (2009-2021) and served five terms as United States Representative from New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District (1999-2009) (son of Stewart Lee Udall; nephew of Morris K. Udall; cousin of Mark Udall; cousin of Gordon H. Smith), a Senator and a Representative from New Mexico; born in Tucson, Pima County, Ariz., May 18, 1948; graduated from Prescott College, Prescott, Ariz., 1970; Bachelor of Law, Cambridge University, England, 1975; J.D., University of New Mexico School of Law, Albuquerque, N.M., 1977; appointed Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, criminal division 1978-1981; served as Chief Counsel to the New Mexico Department of Health and Environment; Attorney General, State of New Mexico, 1990-1998; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Sixth and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1999-January 3, 2009); not a candidate for reelection to the House of Representatives but was elected as a Democrat to the United States Senate in 2008 for the term ending January 3, 2015.
