Victoria Hale is a pharmaceutical chemist who combined individual entrepreneurship and social vision to found the Institute for OneWorld Health (iOWH), a nonprofit pharmaceutical company with a mission to develop affordable drugs for neglected diseases that plague the world’s poorest populations. Victoria Hale received a B.S. (1983) in pharmacy from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. (1990) in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco. Prior to founding the Institute for OneWorld Health in 2000, she served as chief scientific officer and co-founder of Axiom Biomedical, Inc. (1999-2000), as a scientist at Genentech, Inc. (1994-1997), and as a senior reviewer for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (1990-1994). Since 2002, she has also been an adjunct associate professor of biopharmaceutical sciences at the University of California, San Francisco.
