Macalester College is a private liberal arts college located in Saint Paul, Minn. It was established in 1874 and is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. Roughly two-thirds of the college’s students receive financial aid. The college has around 2,000 students from all 50 states and 90 countries. Sixty percent of students study abroad. The most popular majors are economics, political science and psychology. In the past 10 year Macalester students have received three Rhodes Scholarships, 26 National Science Foundation Fellowships and 30 Fulbright-Hays awards. Notable alumni of Macalester include former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan ‘61, former Vice President Walter Mondale ’50, and author Tim O’Brien ‘68. The school competes in NCAA Division III athletics; its teams are referred to as the Scots.
