AAPG was founded, and continues, as a scientific organization dedicated to • Advancing the science of geology, especially as it relates to petroleum, natural gas, other subsurface fluids, and mineral resources • Promoting technology for exploring for, finding, and producing these materials in an economically and environmentally sound manner • Fostering the spirit of scientific research throughout its membership • Disseminating information relating to the geology and associated technology of petroleum, natural gas, other subsurface fluids, and mineral resources • Inspiring and maintaining a high standard of professional conduct on the part of its members • Providing the public with means of recognition of adequately trained and professionally responsible petroleum geologists • Advancing the professional well-being of its members AAPG does not “speak” for the oil industry, but for its individual members—explorationists who seek and find hydrocarbon resources.
