John Fernandez is president and CEO of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, its parent company, the Foundation of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Inc., and the Schepens Eye Research Institute. Under Fernandez’s leadership, Massachusetts Eye and Ear has launched a 10-year strategic plan; opened sites in the Longwood Medical area, East Bridgewater, Concord, Stoneham, Duxbury, and Weymouth; formed new clinical alliances and collaborations with several area hospitals, and increased patient volume and research revenue. Fernandez previously was vice president of Clinical Services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He serves as the chair of the Conference of Boston Teaching Hospitals and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Healthcare Roundtable, the American Association of Eye and Ear Centers of Excellence, and the Massachusetts Hospital Association Board of Trustees. Fernandez is a graduate of the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, and received a master’s degree in Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania.
