Meg Whitman

Ms. Whitman is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of eBay Inc. (global internet company that includes online marketplaces, payments and communications). She is also a Director of eBay Inc. and Dreamworks Animation SKG, Inc. Meg Whitman, the CEO of Hewlett Packard for four years, oversaw its historic split in two in November 2015 and now heads up $52 billion (sales) Hewlett Packard Enterprise, which sells servers, software and more. A former Hasbro and Walt Disney executive, she is still best known for leading online auction site eBay from $5.7 million in revenues in 1997 to $8 billion at the time of her departure in 2008; eBay is also by far the biggest source of her fortune. Whitman, who was cochairman of the national finance committee for Chris Christie's presidential campaign, parted ways with him over his endorsement of Donald Trump, calling Trump "unfit to be president." She joined Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg on SurveyMonkey's board in September 2015 and is a director of Procter & Gamble. Whitman was a general manager of the Preschool Division of the Rhode Island–based toy company Hasbro, overseeing brands like Mr. Potato Head and Teletubbies. eBay’s ability to link consumers with the goods they were seeking—“to make inefficient markets efficient”—intrigued Whitman enough to move her family across the country for what the less adventurous might have considered a risky endeavor. Whitman’s 25 years prior to joining eBay seem tailored to preparing her to take the helm of a world-changing business. After earning her MBA, she picked up customer expertise at P&G and later at Disney, where she ran the Consumer Products Division.
