Under the agreement, Georgia Tech will continue working with the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center on Department of Defense research. The work will be done by Georgia Tech Research Institute, a DOD University Affiliated Research Center. The Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract is for five years, with a renewal option for an additional five years. The contract renewal has a total ceiling of $2.35 billion over the ten-year period. An IDIQ contract means provision for an indefinite quantity of supplies or services during a fixed period of time. "This new, up to 10 year UARC-based contract will continue a long partnership between the two organizations," Systems Simulation, Software and Integration Director Jeff Langhout said. "This will be another important instrument to enable the Army and academia to collaborate and solve the Army's most challenging priorities including readiness and modernization." GTRI first gained a UARC designation in 1995 based on its core competencies. The research to be performed during the contract include electromagnetics and materials technologies, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, threat systems research, sensors and weapon system analysis, cyber security, and test and evaluation. The nonprofit, applied research division of Georgia Tech, GTRI has more than 2,000 employees supporting eight laboratories in over 20 locations around the country, and performs more than $350 million of problem-solving research annually for government and industry. An initial task order worth $14.8 million has been awarded to support the Army's Integrated Air and Missile Defense System. "This contract is available to all the DOD services in support of their missions," Langhout said. "I want to extend my personal 'thank you' to the Army Contacting Command- Redstone in their success of executing such a large contract in exactly one year." U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center is operationally aligned to the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, and administratively aligned to the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. This joint alignment established a closely woven research, development, acquisition, and sustainment team to provide increased responsiveness to the nation's Warfighters. AMRDEC has the mission to deliver collaborative and innovative aviation and missile capabilities for responsive and cost-effective research, development and life cycle engineering solutions. Georgia Tech was the only bidder on the initial $910,570,376 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract in an Internet solicitation, the DOD said. ENERGY Army Corps extends Mountain Valley Pipeline comment deadline GOVERNMENT & REGULATIONS CUBRC awarded $9.3M for new federal defense contract The contract is a follow-on effort for an existing contract that expired in November 2017, according to a justification and approval document for the contract solicitation number W31P4Q-17-R0086 on the FedBizOpps.gov website. The follow-on contract differs from the earlier contract because it will consolidate eight existing contracts that are all sole-source to Georgia Tech Research Institute. "GTRI is uniquely qualified to perform tasks defined under the proposed research programs, as it possesses unique facilities and interdisciplinary laboratories (many of which are one-of-a-kind), not found elsewhere in the United States," the document said. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Jan. 18, 2028. "Within its DOD core competencies, the GTRI will (1) perform fundamental technology research; (2) accomplish technology insertion planning and execution; (3) develop research and engineering strategies for risk mitigation in defense systems and technology programs; (4) design and develop hardware and software models and prototypes and perform technology and engineering analyses to include systems engineering and systems of systems engineering analyses supporting the design, development, interoperability and testing of hardware and software at the component, subsystem, and system level; and (5) quantify the corresponding impacts on composite system performance," the document said.
