Founding partner of Communities of Health, launched by CIGNA in 2008. Communities of Health was the industry's first initiative to engage business and neighborhood communities in significantly improving social and environmental conditions that determine health. Prior to launch, Rick and his partners developed, tested and refined Communities of Health over three years in collaboration with business, community, academic and government leaders. The organization introduced the CoH Index, a proprietary approach to help employers, communities and other stakeholders identify and address community influences with the most significant impact on health and productivity. Communities of Health led pilots in Las Vegas, Houston, Michigan, and a number of test-and-learn labs in business and neighborhood communities around the U.S. and globally.
