Brian P. Otis
Brian Otis joined the University of Washington Department of Electrical Engineering in 2005. His earned his M.S. and Ph.D., both in the field of low power ICs for wireless sensors, at UC-Berkeley. Otis has worked previously at the University of Washington Kelly Tremblay Brain and Behavior Laboratory, the UC-Berkeley Ralph Freeman Neuroscience Lab, Intel Corporation, Agilent Laboratories and Google Inc. He currently works at Verily Life Sciences. He has served a member of the Technical Program Committee of the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) and as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Solid State Circuits (JSSC).
Brian resigned his affiliate appointment in June 2018.
Research Interests
Analog/RF IC design for wireless sensing, bioelectronics and frequency/time references.

Fundamental circuit design techniques for low power biosignal acquisition
Techniques allowing miniaturized, low cost instrumentation for small animal research (a.k.a. Encounternet backpacks for bird and wildlife monitoring)
Wireless power transfer for wearable and implantable devices
Low power systems-on-chip (SoC) for wireless acquisition of electrophysiological signals (extracellular neural recording in collaboration with the Allen Institute for Brain Science, for example)
Theoretical limitations of frequency references and transceivers utilizing high Q, high frequency micromechanical resonators (FBAR, BAW, etc)
