Notes Dr. Lawrence F. Katz, of Cambridge, Massachusetts, is Professor of Economics at Harvard University and a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. His research focuses on issues in the general areas of labor economics and the economics of social problems, including the impact of globalization and technological change on the labor market. Dr. Katz is the editor of the Quarterly Journal of Economics, a position he has held since 1991. In addition, he served as Chief Economist at the Department of Labor from January 1993 to August 1994. Dr. Katz received a B.A. degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. degree in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Katz was elected a fellow of the Econometric Society in 1993.
