I was appointed by the governor to the 9-member board that oversees Maryland’s Health Benefit Exchange. The Exchange allows state residents to compare premium rates, benefits, and quality among health plans to help individuals and small employers find an insurance product that best suits their needs. The Exchange is the entity that determines the eligibility for Medicaid and for advanceable tax credits for individuals below 400 percent of the federal poverty level. Private insurers compete in this open marketplace, creating an even playing field and providing transparent and accurate information so that Marylanders can make important decisions about their health care options.
