I also work closely with the White House on promoting President Obama’s plan to make high-quality, full-day preschool available to all 4-year-olds from low- to moderate-income families through a new state-federal partnership. The plan is part of the President's proposal to create a birth to age five pipeline of services and supports, including investments in home visiting and Early Head Start-child care partnerships, to prepare children for success in kindergarten and beyond. Key Accomplishments: • Appointed to the to serve as primary liaison on early learning with the Obama White House and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and to oversee early learning policy including the Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge and Preschool Development Grants. • Co-led the Interagency Policy Group that developed 5 ED/HHS joint policy statements, jointly funded four national Academy of Science studies and developed two major early learning reports. • With the White House and HHS convened practitioners, state and local leaders, policymakers, business leaders, and philanthropy for the first Summit on Early Education and another Early STEM Symposium at the White House. • Successfully secured support and funding for new ED positions: a Family Ambassador and a Pay for Success Fellow.
