On March 9, 2015, New America announced its start-up of Opportunity@Work as a “civic enterprise” focused on “re-wiring the U.S. labor market to enable more Americans to achieve economic opportunity and upward mobility in the job market and workplace.” This announcement coincided with the White House launch - in President Obama’s speech to the National League of Cities conference - of the TechHire initiative, initially in 21 U.S. cities, states, and regions.
