Notes Samuel Johnson, Jr. is a lecturer at Notre Dame de Namur University and superintendent emeritus of the San Mateo Union High School District. His career spans more than 45 years of service to secondary education after beginning his career as a mathematics teacher. His administrative career includes successful service as director of human relations, assistant principal, principal, director of personnel, and associate superintendent of human resources-administrative services all in San Mateo Union High School District. Under his leadership and with overwhelming support from voters in 2006, the District received $298 million through Measure M, making possible new construction and modernization programs that continue today. Having received numerous awards and recognitions for his work in education, including a listing in the Congressional Record of the 110th Congress by the Honorable Tom Lantos; a California Senate Resolution from the Honorable Leland Y. Yee, Ph.D. and a California Assembly Resolution from the Honorable Gene Mullin, for his leadership and educational service to students, Sam continues his efforts toward insuring students a quality education through his work as a senior associate for the ELS Group, LLC, which recruits leaders for K-Community College. He has chaired more than 20 Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation committees. He has served as a member of the board of directors for the San Mateo YMCA, the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club and the United Way. Sam currently serves on the board at Provident Credit Union. Sam holds a Bachelor of Science from Southern University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and a master's from Stanford University, Palo Alto; both in mathematics. Additionally he has done doctoral studies at the University of California, Berkeley.
