Notes Larry Kantor recently completed a year as a 2016 Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative (ALI) Fellow. The ALI is for experienced and successful leaders of large organizations who want to utilize their expertise and leadership skills to tackle some of the world’s most difficult social problems. He retired in 2015 from Barclays Investment Bank as Managing Director and Head of Global Research. In that capacity Larry managed a team of 900-1,000 researchers covering every financial product and region of the world. He published research and managed content, visited institutional clients and spoke at conferences, appeared in the media to discuss economic and market developments, and served on the Investment Bank Executive Committee that set the strategy for the bank. Larry also managed the Barclays index and portfolio analytics businesses. Larry began his career as an economics professor at Lehigh University, worked as an economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, and then spent the rest of his career on Wall St. Before joining Barclays, Larry worked at JPMorgan as chief economist for Europe in London and as global head of foreign exchange strategy. He also worked at Normandy Asset Management as Chief Economist and Strategist. Larry holds a PhD in economics from Ohio State University and a BA in economics from Rutgers University. Larry is on the Board of the Council for Economic Education, which provides classroom resources and professional development to K-12 teachers so they can provide economics and personal finance knowledge to their students. He is also on the Board of Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath), which offers a metric-based, mentor-led incentivized program to guide low-income families toward economic independence.
