| Notes | Reform efforts related to teacher quality have emphasized developing more effective approaches to teacher preparation and induction programs for new teachers. Less focus has been placed on retaining and expanding the impact of high-performers with several years of teaching experience. The Center for Better Schools (TCBS) designed the National Academy of Advanced Teacher Education (NAATE) to begin to fill this need by training high-performing teachers interested in becoming teacher leaders. The NAATE program offers select teachers a demanding program of study (that does not interfere with their regular teaching load). The goal is to create an elite corps of teachers who remain in the classroom in part because they are able to have broader impact in their schools and districts. This grant will support the development of a coherent strategic plan for the growth of NAATE. |
