Eric Edmond Parsons, 70, a former chairman and chief executive officer of Standard Insurance Company of Portland, Ore., died Wednesday Wednesday January 9 2019, according to Standard. Parsons began working for the Standard in 1968. He later became the chief financial officer. He succeeded Ron Timpe as the chief executive officer of the holding company StanCorp Financial Group Inc., in 2002. Parsons, in turn, was succeeded by the company’s current chairman, president and CEO, J. Greg Ness, in 2009, as the 2007-2009 Great Recession was cresting. Eric Parsons is the retired CEO and Board Chair of StanCorp Financial Group, Inc. and Standard Insurance Company of Portland, Oregon. Mr. Parsons is a Trustee of Lewis & Clark College and also serves as Chair of the Oregon Health and Science University Foundation Board of Trustees. He is the Past Chair of the Oregon Community Foundation, Past Chair of the Oregon Health Policy Board, Past Chair of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Community Council, and Senior Director of the Oregon Business Council. Eric is a 1970 graduate of Lewis & Clark College where he earned a Bachelors Arts Degree. He and his wife, Janet, also an alumna (B.A. 1972) have three adult children.
