Paula Carmody was appointed People’s Counsel, the advocate for Maryland residential utility customers, by Douglas Gansler, Attorney General of Maryland. Her extensive work on consumer issues for government agencies and nonprofit organizations provides a strong consumer-oriented foundation for her position. Ms. Carmody previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Consumer Protection Division, Office of the Attorney General of Maryland, and Assistant People’s Counsel with the Office of People’s Counsel. In November 2011, Ms. Carmody was elected to serve as the President of the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates (NASUCA). She is also on the Executive Committee of the Critical Consumer Issues Forum, a joint initiative of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, NASUCA, and the Edison Electric Institute. Ms. Carmody graduated with a Juris Doctor from Antioch School of Law. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from McGill University.
