As President, League Operations at the National Basketball Association, Byron Spruell oversees critical league operations, including the Basketball Operations, Referee Operations and Basketball Strategy & Analytics departments and the processes regarding the management of rule changes, the evaluation and training of game officials, and the enforcement of conduct standards and discipline. Mr. Spruell also collaborates with USA Basketball and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to promote the global growth of the game. Prior to joining the NBA in August 2016, Mr. Spruell spent 20 years at Deloitte LLP, most recently as its Vice Chairman, Central Region Market Leader. Byron Spruell is Global Managing Director of the Financial Advisory practice for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL). He chairs the Global Financial Advisory Executive Committee, and is a member of the DTTL leadership team. Mr. Spruell is responsible for leading the 8,500 person practice, which, spanning nearly 150 countries, provides highly specialized advisory solutions for companies facing critical business events where significant value is at stake. He is based in New York City. Prior to being named Managing Director - Global Financial Advisory, Mr. Spruell served as a Managing Principal of Deloitte LLP, acting as Chief of Staff to the former U.S. CEO and current global CEO Barry Salzberg. In this capacity, Mr. Spruell was involved in operations, communications, strategy, regulatory/policy, talent, and clients/markets matters for the U.S. member firm. Spruell received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Notre Dame University in 1987 and became a Double Domer after earning his MBA from Notre Dame in 1989. He was an offensive lineman and co-captain of the Fighting Irish’s football team and currently serves on the University’s Board of Trustees. Byron and his wife Sedra reside in Warren, N.J., and have two children: Devyn (14) and Aleah (10).
