Garrison Keillor got his radio start on Minnesota Public Radio. A drive-time show -- called "The Morning Program" -- was referred to as "A Prairie Home Entertainment." After resigning from the show in 1971, he re-invented the concept as "A Prairie Home Companion." Based loosely on The Grand Ole Opry show, it featured music, comedy and old-school radio drama. Debuting in 1974, it featured a host of fictitious sponsors and its own town, Lake Wobegon. Keillor's monologue about the town gave the show a nationwide identity.
