Jack Zoeller has 30 years’ experience in the start-up and turn-around of businesses in the financial services and risk management industries. Currently, he is Chairman and CEO of Bank of Virginia, a subsidiary of Cordia Bancorp which he co-founded in 2009 to bring new capital and management to troubled community banks in the Eastern U.S. He has also served as CEO of E.F. Hutton Indemnity Group, Capital Risk Management Corporation, ComFed Bancorp Incorporated, North American Company Health and Life Insurance Company, and AtlantiCare Risk Management Corporation. Mr. Zoeller is an expert on corporate governance, benefits and compensation and has served on 23 boards of directors, including the Association of American Rhodes Scholars, Community Bankers Trust Corporation, Northeastern Regional Advisory Board of Fannie Mae and West Point Society of New York. He is also a Visiting Research Professor at George Washington University specializing in 17th century American colonial history. After graduating first in his Army Ranger class, Captain Zoeller served as an infantry company commander in the 82nd Airborne Division and managed the Division’s training program for 16,000 soldiers. He was subsequently assigned to the Program Analysis and Evaluation directorate in the Army Chief of Staff’s Office in the Pentagon, where his responsibilities included Army air defense programs and force structure issues associated with the “hollow Army” of the late 1970s. Mr. Zoeller holds a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated first in his class. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, where he concentrated in Defense Policy and consulted for the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He was elected a Rhodes Scholar from New York and earned a Masters Degree in Politics from Oxford University for his thesis, “Decision-Making in the Committee on Armed Services of the U.S. House of Representatives.” He resides with his wife Kathryn in Washington, DC and Richmond, VA.
